When I was very young, my father, a great artist himself, painted a grand and glorious rabbit on the wall, in
my bedroom, right over my crib in Elmhurst, Queens, Long Island, New York. Sixty years later, after continued
encouragement from my dear friend, Karin, I began painting rabbits myself. Two books were born from these paintings:
Eugene and the Magical Carrot Tree and Eugene and his Magical Dreams.
I would like to thank my dad for the gift of art he gave to me. Thank you, Karin, for reminding
me that Zaikine means rabbit. Thank you to my creative and inspired daughter, Anastasia, for her continued support.
Special thanks to Janis Cavas for the labor of love co-editing and typing the book. An extra thank you goes out to E. P. Draper, Shayne Cook, and Darla Barclay; with their
